Larven fytofaag en , met uitzondering van Cylindrotoma, op terrestrische, semi-aquatische tot aquatische mossen. Cylindrotoma larven als vlinderrupsen vrijlevend op allerlei kruidachtige planten in vochtige bosrijke gebieden. Adulten vooral in moerasachtige gebieden en vochtige bossen.
