Larven vlakbij of in de watermeniscus, in een karakteristieke omgekeerd U-vormige houding aan de rand van het water of net boven het water aan uit het water stekende voorwerpen, waar ook de verpopping plaatsvindt.

Adulten houden zich veelal op in de buurt van de larvale habitats, mannetjes vormen zwermen.

The larvae are found at or near the water surface where they take on a characteristic body posture, a reversed U-shape, near the edge of the water or just above it, holding themselves op by objects projecting from the water surface.

The adults mainly occur near the larval habitats where the males may fly in swarms.
