De larven leven parasitair in neusgaten of neusholtes van hoefdieren, vooral schapen en geiten. Volgroeide larven verlaten de gastheer ook weer via de neusgaten en verpoppen zich verder in de grond. Adulten zijn weinig actief en ze worden dan ook niet vaak waargenomen.

Adulten hebben de neiging om te gaan "hilltoppen" en zoeken hoge punten op in het landschap om elkaar te ontmoeten.

The larvae are parsites in the nostrils or nasal cavities of mammals, especially sheep and goats

Full grown larvae leave their host through the nostrils or mouth opening and pupate in the soil.

Adults seem to be rather inactive insects. A conspicuous phenomenon in this family is hilltopping, the habit of the adults seeking out high places or landmarks, in order to raise the chances of males and females meeting each other.
